Charger un conteneur mixte : un plan pratique
Consolidating several categories into one container is one of the simplest ways for an importer to cut landed cost. It is also one of the easiest ways to damage goods, because a container loaded without a plan puts loads where the packaging was never designed to take them.
Start from weight, not from volume
A 40HQ is limited by both volume and payload, and mixed cargo usually reaches the payload limit before it fills the space. Shock absorbers and brake discs are dense; carburettor cartons and empty packaging are not.
Put the dense goods on the floor and over the axles. This lowers the centre of gravity and reduces the dynamic loads on the cargo during a sea voyage, which is where most crush damage happens.
Fill the voids deliberately
Empty space is not neutral. Cargo shifts into it. Use cartons of light, crush-resistant goods — brake pads are ideal — as filler between pallets, and use void fillers where no carton fits.
Do not use a heavy carton to fill a gap in the upper layer. The carton below it was not designed for a point load.
What should never go near the door
- Carburettors. Light, fragile at the throttle shaft, and the door end takes the most impact during handling and devanning. Keep them at the front, upright, and clearly marked.
- Anything with a friction surface exposed. Brake discs in open packaging can take edge damage that turns into a vibration complaint later.
- Private-label cartons. Retail packaging is designed for a shelf, not for a stack. If it must travel, put it high and light, not low and heavy.
Photograph before sealing
Photograph the loaded container from the door before closing it, with the loading plan visible in the frame. This is the single cheapest piece of risk management in the whole shipment: if damage is found at destination, the photo set establishes whether the load left in good condition.
Document the plan
A one-page loading plan — what goes where, in what order, with weights per block — is enough. It also gives the importer something to check the container against on arrival, which shortens the argument if a carton count is short.
